Common Questions & Answers When Using Homeopathy for Lyme
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and cannot diagnose, treat or give medical advice. The content here is only for educational purposes and to share my experience and provide encouragement. Please consult your doctor for treatment advice questions and concerns.
Many of my readers have made the decision to see the doctor my family and I have used for chronic Lyme disease treatment. As is true with any treatment protocol there are many questions and concerns that arise during treatment. I’ve put together a question and answer sheet that will hopefully help to guide you during these uneasy times but consulting with your treating physician or provider is always best!
Choosing a Doctor or Physician
Before choosing any doctor for Lyme treatment, it is essential that you do your own research. Never see a doctor without checking their credentials. Feel free to call their practice with any questions you may have. It’s even a great idea to schedule a “get to know you” or initial appointment where the doctor can explore your medical questionnaire and discuss your questions. They may choose to give you a physical or a thorough examination whether physically or holistically.
You should always feel free to ask as many questions as you need before beginning treatment. If you are uncomfortable with any doctor, feel you are not being listened to or do not agree with his/her protocol, please do yourself and the doctor a favor and continue searching.
Your treatment outcome requires a good doctor-patient relationship.
I realize that this is a very scary and uncertain time. I know that you are desperate to regain your health or that of a loved one, but many people with tick-borne diseases jump into treatment with a physician out of desperation, without doing any research and end up wasting a lot of money.
You may be in the situation that I found myself in years ago. I chose to go to a doctor based on a personal recommendation because I was exhausted and tired of researching. I still did some investigation and asked many questions before beginning the suggested protocol.
Uniquely You
You may have heard the term bioindividual. This means that each individual person is completely different, we are each unique. Your genetic makeup is different from anyone else’s. What you choose to eat, the chemicals you use each day, the environment you live in and have been exposed to throughout your life and even the emotional experiences you’ve had are not the same as anyone else’s on earth.
Because of this uniqueness, every person will respond to treatments differently. Treatment results will depend on all of these factors; diet, lifestyle habits, emotional health, and living environment will determine how quickly you heal and how you respond to medications, herbs, homeopathy, supplements, and even food.
Homeopathy
Homeopathy has a long, rich history and has been an effective way to treat many daily ailments and chronic conditions. It is and has been overseen by the FDA. Homeopathy is safe to use even for infants and children. There are no side effects from homeopathy but it is important to know where you are getting your homeopathic remedies from. Always and only purchase them from a reliable company or source.
Common Questions
If you ever have questions or concerns regarding your treatment, always call your doctor first! While I can share my experience I cannot answer your questions about how to use homeopathy as I have not been trained in homeopathic medicine. I am also not at liberty to diagnose, treat, or recommend any protocol or treatment for any condition or disease.
The following information is for educational purposes only, you should always consult your healing professional before starting or stopping any treatment.
Here are common questions I get from readers when they first begin treatment.
Q: Is it normal to Herx when beginning homeopathy?
A: Herxing, otherwise known as Jarisch-Herxheimer, is a reaction in the body caused by the death of harmful microorganisms during antibiotics use. When microorganisms are killed they release endotoxins which create a toxic burden that the body has a difficult time getting rid of. Unlike antibiotic use, homeopathy stimulates your own body’s immune response to begin healing and may cause an increase in symptoms called a healing crisis.
Symptoms may appear to be similar in nature but the results are quite different.
Each person will have a different response when beginning homeopathy. Some may notice an increase in symptoms right away, others may not notice symptoms until much later.
Q: What can I do to get through a healing crisis?
A: Get plenty of rest, keep well hydrated and eat nourishing food. Eliminate sugar and junk food. Detox baths are relaxing and can alleviate pain. Consult your doctor to find out what methods they prefer for detoxing. Many physicians and naturopaths have their own preferred methods for detoxing. They will most likely have their own remedies which will help to eliminate or diminish negative symptoms.
Q: Should I take other supplements or herbs?
A: Consult your doctor or holistic practitioner. If you feel that you should be taking extra supplements you can get a second opinion from a licensed functional nutritionist. A functional nutritionist is somewhat different from a regular nutritionist. They can guide you with how to better use food to meet your nutritional needs and give advice on how to supplement what you cannot get from food. Not all supplements are created equally. Many supplements have harmful fillers. A supplement can have a negative effect on your health if they are made from poor quality ingredients.
Q: What if I forget to take my remedies?
A: It happens! Just resume taking them as soon as you remember. Check with your treating physician but sometimes you can take another dose within an hour or two of the previous.
Q: I was told I’m Lyme free but I’m still having the same symptoms.
A: Many Lyme sufferers are led to believe that Lyme is the only thing causing their symptoms. In reality, if you have Lyme disease you also have other co-infections, viral infections, parasites, and possibly heavy metal toxicity. Each time you visit your doctor, the most dominant energetic weakness in your body will be discovered and treatment will be prescribed accordingly.
Q: When will I see improvement?
A: Every person is completely different and we each heal at a different rate. The combination of infections you have, the condition of your immune system, along with your environment, toxic load and emotional health will all determine the rate at which you heal. It’s impossible to say how quickly you will see results. I recommend keeping a symptoms journal or spreadsheet so you can more easily recognize improvements no matter how small. We tend not to notice what we don’t focus on and will often forget that we once had a troubling symptom that is now gone. So, keep a journal and celebrate each improvement no matter how small.
Q: How long will it take until I’m healed.
A: This is something that no one can truly answer. There are many factors involved and it’s best to discuss this with your physician.
Q: What do I do if I’m not getting better?
A: Consult your doctor or holistic practitioner. There may be a contributing factor that he or she is not aware of. Be sure to discuss anything you may think contributes to your symptoms. Sometimes what is completely normal to us may be a contributing factor. It may take a bit of investigation to determine what is keeping you from healing. Keeping a journal or symptoms log is very helpful.
Q: I’m not getting better, when should I see a new doctor.
A: This is a personal decision. First, communicate your concerns with your current doctor. There may be something you are missing or have failed to share regarding your health. Keep in mind, if you are living in a home or are frequently in a building with mold or other toxins, you will not get better. It’s important to look at your living environment, diet, water conditions as well as other health conditions to rule out those as possible hindrances to your recovery. Remember, healing takes time! It involves addressing every aspect of your life including healing from emotional burdens or past trauma.
Final Thoughts
Healing is possible but for many people, it can take years! I know that it can be very discouraging and can lead to depression, loneliness, and even hopelessness. Be open and honest with your doctor and your loved ones. Gather a support team around you, practice intentional gratitude, rest as much as possible, choose the most nutritious food and keep doing the next best thing.
I pray that God will give you strength and healing, that He will walk alongside you and that He will give you the peace and endurance to carry this burden.
