This March Lyme disease sufferers want the world to know about Lyme Disease and other tick-borne diseases by bringing awareness through a new challenge.
Grassroots organizers have partnered with ILADS to start the Take a Bite Out of Lyme Challenge in order to bring about awareness and raise funds for Lyme research and better treatment.
Here are some quick facts that you can share during your challenge.
* Studies show that up to half of all patients with Lyme Disease receive false negative results.
* Delayed diagnosis means patients do not receive the treatment that could cure an early Lyme infection.
* Children are at the highest risk of contracting Lyme Disease and are more vulnerable to infections of the central nervous system.
* The CDC estimates that there are 300,000 new cases of Lyme Disease each year in the United States. This number does not include those who are misdiagnosed.
* Lyme Disease is called the great imitator and can mimic the symptoms of many other diseases including ALS, MS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Alzheimers, Parkinsons Disease, Autism and other mutli-system diseases.
* Lyme Disease is found across the United States, in every state and throughout the world. It has been found on every continent except Antarctica.
* Lyme Disease testing is inaccurate and there are many reasons why blood tests are missing Lyme infections.
Now that you know will you take the challenge?
