The Perfect Detox Bath

October 31, 2016 by Tricia 7 Comments

A detox bath is one of the easiest ways to pull toxins from your body and to help you feel better when you’re sick, especially if you have Lyme disease.

Detox baths are especially helpful for getting through a Herxheimer which is when your body has an overload of dead bacteria and toxins from the onslaught of Lyme disease and co-infections.

Lyme treatment can cause a die-off of bacteria that is too much for your body to handle all at once. Herxing is believed to occur when dead bacteria release their endotoxins into the blood and tissues faster than the body can remove it.

Here’s how you can find relief relatively quickly.

A word of warning; never take a detox bath unless you have someone in the home who can assist you if you become too weak to get out of the tub.

DIRECTIONS FOR A DETOX BATH

Gather the following supplies and head to your tub.

  • A large glass of water.  Adding a slice of lemon and pinch of salt will help keep you hydrated.
  • 1 cup of Epsom Salt or Sea Salts
  • 10 drops of essential oils if you have them.
Choose from a few of my favorite therapeutic oils: Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Thyme, Marjoram, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Frankincense, Grapefruit, Orange, Cedarwood, Chamomile.
    * Be sure your oils are made with quality ingredients and not synthetic ingredients.
  • 1/2 Cup hydrogen peroxide or baking soda

Add the salts, essential oils and baking soda or peroxide to a hot bath and soak for at least 20 minutes.

Drink your water as you soak to keep hydrated.

At the end of 20 minutes, while your tub is draining, rinse off in a cool shower using a washrag or bath brush to clear away any remaining toxins.

Dry off and bundle up. You’ll probably want to go right to sleep but if not you should feel a bit better. If you’re really sick or are having a severe herx, you may not feel better right away but a detox bath will definitely help you in your recovery.

Keep drinking water if you can and just take it easy.

Healing your body takes times, attention and quite a bit of effort. Ridding your body of toxins is a critical step toward healing and a detox bath is a great way to work toward that goal.

Magnesium Chloride is more absorbable than Epsom salts. The flakes are available in 2lb bags on Amazon for around $20 but I get 50lb bags at the local farm supply store for $30. It can also be made into “Magnesium oil”. I LOVE my Magnesium detox baths!

I love baths, but I just took one and the backs of my hamstrings at the top seem to be super hot. Is this because there is a lymphatic pathway in that area? I’ve had my skin flare up recently and lots of muscular change. I think it is because of the dead lyme and ammonia byproducts, so I’m trying to kill that off currently with natural supplements. There is a whole program for that too if anyone needs some info!

Thank you for sharing Katrina! Regular detox baths are so helpful along with supplements that help to sweep up toxins. This is especially true for those of us who don’t detox well.
